principal (Del lat. principālis).
1. adj. Dicho de una persona o de una cosa: Que tiene el primer lugar en estimación o importancia y se antepone y prefiere a otras.
2. Dicho de una persona: Que es la primera en un negocio o en cuya cabeza está.
3. Esencial o fundamental, por oposición a accesorio.
4. prínceps.
5. Se decía del piso que en los edificios se halla sobre el bajo o el entresuelo. U. t. c. s. m.)
6. desus. Ilustre, esclarecido en nobleza.
7. m. En las plazas de armas, cuerpo de guardia encargado de ayudar a las providencias de policía o de justicia, y de comunicar diariamente la orden y el santo a los demás puestos de guardia de la guarnición.
8. Capital de una obligación o censo, en oposición a rédito, pensión o canon.
9. Jefe de una casa de comercio, fábrica, almacén, etc.
